Road tar defacing your ride?
Looking for a DIY solution that you can remove road tar from home and avoid using harsh chemicals while doing so?
Here is another quick tip that we learned out of necessity. We did NOT want to buy Bug & Tar Remover as that is a petroleum based product and that actually strips the previously built up paint protestants; ie Wax etc.
So we had no choice but to pass through a bunch of freshly laid tar in our Corvette. Needless to say, we were not happy, but at the end of the day, it's just a car and everything can be cleaned/repaired. So how do you get this Tar off the Car? (a poet and didn't know it)
Peanut butter! Yes, lather some creamy peanut butter (not crunchy) on there, let is sit for a 1/2 hour, give it a gentle wipe.
To be quite honest, we did not expect this to work, but it did. Please keep in mind that this was mid-late summer and it worked like a champ. I would suspect that its efficiency would deplete with every passing degree. Some spots were really caked on and required multiple applications; So the process goes as such...
NO Paper Towels Allowed for any of the following processes.... Use clean microfiber instead. If there are any abrasives, such as sand, dirt, grime, etc, please evacuate abrasives prior to and during cleaning process...
Steps
- Gently clean tarred area of any grit and abrasives with soft microfiber cloth and plenty of water.
- Gently massage in a thin layer of creamy peanut butter and then let it sit. Time will work its magic here.
- After 1/2 hour or so, take a clean microfiber and gently wipe away the tarred area. A large amount of tarred area should be removed. Please repeat until removed.
