Super food weeds! Tea and Salad Growing in Your Yard!

Did you know you are growing a super food tea and a garden salad in your yard?

Most people don't realize that the dandelion, also known as taraxacum, makes a yummy tea and great bitter garden salad additive with cancer fighting properties.  They are in fact a superfood!

If you pop the yellow tops off, leaving the stem behind, you can boil these babies, add a little sugar and you have quite a delicious tea! Some actually make tea from the roots as well, but I did not have success with this (tasted like dirt to me). I did however really like the tea made from the flowers. You can even mix it as an additive to boost the benefits of regular tea.

Some avoid green and black tea due to the high fluoride content. Dandelion tea makes a great alternative.

You can also use the leaves as a bitter green to add to garden salads. I personally don't mind bitter greens, so I can eat it by itself. Of course I like mine doused in ranch dressing and other salad accompaniments as well.

The Chinese and Native Americans have been consuming these for centuries as an anti-cancer remedy. They are known to cause apoptosis, or cell death, in several prevalent cancers in our society today. They also stimulate the activation of certain proteins in our systems that aid in cancer cell destruction. Do some research and see for your self!

WARNING! Make sure the spot that you are harvesting them from has not been sprayed with Round Up! Also wash them thoroughly as they can be quite sandy.
